Beaches on Korcula Island

Tags: Korcula

Rich in vineyards, olive groves and small villages, harbouring a glorious old town, the island of Korčula is the sixth-largest Adriatic island, stretching nearly 47km in length. Quiet coves and small sandy beaches dot the steep southern coast while the northern shore is flatter and more pebbly.

The Island of Korcula boasts with many beautiful pebble beaches, secluded bays and crystal clear blue sea great for swimming and snorkeling. There are some beaches on Korcula Island which we especially like and are definitley worth of visit.

1.) Pupnat Bay

Pupnatska Luka: We recommend that you take a trip by car to the beautiful Pupnat Bay (a relatively unpopulated bay with a beautiful pebble beach and one typical Dalmatian restaurant) approx. 30-minute drive by car from your luxury apartment or villa (without shade, so we recommend bringing a sun shade with you). You can reach the beach by descending the new asphalt road and park at the end of the bay. The best time to visit this beach is in the early morning hours when there are less people there and the colours of the sea are breath-taking!

2.) Bacva Bay (Plaza Bacva), on the way to the town of Korcula (30-minute drive from your apartment), located in in near vicinity of village of Pupnat is approx. one half smaller than Pupnat Bay but no less charming. The best time to visit is during the day with small white pebble stones all warmed up from the sun!

3.) Proizd Island with its magical turquoise pebble beaches!  The boat Muro which takes you to the island 3 times a day (9 am, 10 am and 11 am). The ride takes approx. 40 minutes and you can return back to Vela Luka at 4 pm, 5pm or 6 pm from Proizd Island.

The boat ride itself is already an adventure. We recommend that you bring a parasol and some food and water with you; however, there is one restaurant on the island where you can buy water, ice cream and have a Dalmatian lunch (not really a highlight in restaurant offer but nevertheless the grill dishes are quite tasty). There are a number of pine woods above the beach, so there is some shade. The island has 4 excellent beaches and the last on the left is a nudist beach.

4.) If you like sandy beaches than you should visit beach Vela Przina in Lumbarda (2 km from the apartments Sunshine). The sandy beaches in Lumbarda are the perfect place to take young children; with no risk of hurting themselves on rocks or urchins and shallow waters for them to play in. Of course it's also lots of fun for them (and the adults) to build sand castles! The beach is protected from northerly winds.

5.) Bilin Zal, also a sandy beach, located in Lumbarda. One part of a beach is paved and pleasant for walking and sunbathing. The sea is crystal clear and great for diving. The beach offers a beautiful view on the Peljesac peninsula which is an ideal place for exploring the coast for all those with an adventurous spirit.

On the beach Bilin Zal you can refresh yourself with a cold drink or taste some of the original fish meals in the restaurant.

6.) "Beautiful beach" (my favourite one) with small white pebbles is further away from Bilin Zal into the direction away from Lumbarda centre- just continue walking so that you leave the beach Bilin Zal behind you and have the sea on your left side, for ca. 100 m, until you reach beautiful bay with crystal claer water (like on the picture below).

7.) Vaja beach (26 minutes from Lumbarda)

It's a typical Croatian pebble beach and is about a 15 - 20 minutes walk from Racisce (26 minutes from Lumbarda). Follow the main road up the steep hill out of the village. After you reach the end of the tarmac road, take the path off to the right to the beach (caution, the path is steep). The water at Vaja beach is so clear and fantastic for snorkelling.
